Form
if + present tense, future simple (will/won’t + infinitive)
In the if-clause we can use any present tense, i.e. present simple, present continuous, and present perfect. In the other part of a sentence we can use imperative, can, may, or going to instead of future simple. You may start the sentence with the if-clause or the future clause. Remember to use a comma if you start the sentence with the if-clause.

Use
We use the first conditional when we talk about a possible situation and its consequences. We don’t know if the condition is met, but it’s possible.

Examples
• If you pay attention tonight, you’ll see Saturn, Moon and Venus align. present simple and future simple
• If you’re going to the cinema today, I may accompany you. present continuous and may+infinitive
• Remember to use a comma if you start the sentence with the future clause. imperative and present simple
• We’ll start using the new system if everyone has completed the course. future simple and present perfect
